What do you do during an economic downturn, when your resources are slashed, your team is cut, and you’re asked to do more with less?
Many companies just do less. But that’s a grave mistake.
In this episode of The (Re)Sessions, Rachel Downey advises us that while others are pulling back, it’s time for you to lean in and double down on what’s working.
Rachel is the Founder of and Executive Producer at Share Your Genius, an end-to-end podcast agency built from a marketer’s perspective. She joined us for the first episode of The (Re)Sessions to share her content marketing expertise and help us understand why it’s important to stand out during a recession, how to create and leverage a consistent brand message, and how to repurpose podcast content for all of your marketing channels.
For each episode, we like to highlight some key takeaways. Think of it as a podcast outline or live show notes. Here are just a few of the takeaways that really stood out to us in this episode.
As Rachel explains, content marketers don't have to create a Picasso every single time they release a piece of content. Instead, focus on creating a throughline in your content that establishes your brand’s POV and come up with ways to create stickiness around your podcast content.
Share Your Genius are the masters of repurposing content. Their rule of thumb is that for every podcast episode they create, they’ll create 60 pieces of content for amplification and promotion. In other words, you can create a full month of content from just one podcast episode.
This might seem counterintuitive, but when an economic downturn impacts a brand’s content marketing team, that’s when you need to go all-in on content. As Rachel says in the episode, "When others back out or pull back, you lean in because now is the time to own your voice and your point of view in the marketplace."
